Fabricated Steel Sculpture is a Teaching Tool at Owens Community College
July 22, 2008
It may look like art, but it's all about engineering: "It is a 3.5-ton abstract "teaching sculpture" in front of the Owens Community College Engineering Technologies building.
The sculpture illustrates different techniques used to join steel together, and is used by students in classes on construction materials, drafting and structure design. Such sculptures are familiar sights at four-year universities, but the Owens structure is one of only two at a community and or junior colleges in the United States.
The sculpture was fabricated at Art Iron, Inc., and assembled at Owens by apprentice ironworkers.
