On April 5th 1905, a young Swiss immigrant and ornamental iron mechanic posted a small frame
sign on Canton Avenue in Toledo, Ohio that marked the beginning of "Art Iron and Wire Works".
His name was
Godfrey Schlatter. He became known for his quality craftsmanship, building
ornamental iron staircases, gates, fences, and even the lion cage at the Toledo Zoo that
still stand some 80 years later. Today, Art Iron, one of the Midwest's largest fabricators,
is involved in fast track, design assist and design/build projects. A sampling of these recent
projects include Dulles Airport in Virginia, Toyota Truck Facility in Texas, Four Winds Casino
New Buffalo, Michigan, Comerica Park home of the Detroit Tigers, H2 Hummer plant in Indiana,
Owens Illinois World Headquarters Perrysburg, Ohio and Ann Arbor High School in Michigan.
